THE BIRD MAN OF MODERAN
During a slight let up in War, Moderan man takes a moment to reflect on a number of worthy topics including the cycle of the seasons: "Now we have it all on giant drums with yard sheets, divided into four - winter part, spring part, summer part and fall - and turning a season up in plastic is just play now where once old Nature struggled . . . hard."
Such a human touch David R. Bunch bestowed on his Moderan man. All human fears and human frailty have been vanquished but one very human quality still afflicts Moderan man: boredom. Yes, yes, Moderan man gets bored. We read the first glimmer of this all too human torment: "Essentially I'm a doubt man, out-search and looking. And except in war, when all is beautiful and killing, strength and anger gone solid action, everything channeled to knowable goals, I'm edgy. "
Moderan man muses: if only peace could be turned into a form of war. Sorry to say, peace is peace and his war mind simply has to deal with it. But then it dawns on Moderan man - maybe an appreciation of soft beauty might take the edge off his boredom. He tries to see the beauty of all the birds as he takes his walk. Drats! Beauty doesn't work so well. He then encounters the steel-flesh strips little man in charge of all those birds . . . and sure enough, he finds the way he can temporarily alleviate his boredom: picking an argument.
Such keep insight from Mr. Bunch! This is exactly what warmongers around the world do - pick arguments, create interpersonal conflict, insult and belittle others as a way to stir up one's emotions, preferably to a boil. All to deal with their BOREDOM. As one of my spiritual teachers observed - boredom is the biggest obstacle for people in Western society. How many wars have been started by leaders out of sheer boredom? Round to the nearest thousand.
